Optimal outcomes

Each of the Gynaechoice consultant team is a specialist with a wealth of experience. All have full time appointments as senior consultant gynaecologists within the NHS alongside their private practice.

Our aim when establishing the Gynaechoice Partnership in 2004 was to provide an opportunity for women to access  a complete and comprehensive spectrum of gynaecological treatments. To enable this it was important that along with wide general experience in gynaecology, each of the consultant partners provided additional expertise in a more specialist area of gynaecology (urogynaecology, oncology, endometriosis, complex laparoscopic surgery).  This would allow us to refer cases within our partnership where necessary, thereby ensuring safe and optimal care for our patients.

In surgery, we frequently operate in partnership. We believe that having two experienced consultants involved provides undoubted advantages for our patients. Whereas this approach is far from routine generally, at Gynaechoice this is common practice, particularly with any major surgery.

As senior consultants we have established a strong network of colleagues in other medical and surgical specialities and are able to provide excellent guidance where additional opinions are required. Occasionally our surgical cases require involvement of surgeons in other fields – we have very good association with colleagues covering all surgical disciplines and scheduling multi-speciality surgery when necessary is routine.

Comprehensive care

We feel confident in our ability to provide experienced opinion and expertise to manage the full scope of gynaecological problems.

The majority of our patients are treated for common gynaecological  problems (e.g. abnormal smear test, vulval skin symptoms, pelvic pain, endometriosis, fibroids, heavy periods, bladder problems, prolapse, infertility). Our additional specialist expertise enables us to help with more complex problems (e.g. gynaecological cancer treatment,  advanced pelvic surgery ,  complex bladder and prolapse procedures).

Our consultants are supported by an outstanding team at Gynaechoice who ensure additional support for our patients throughout their treatment pathway. Four experienced secretaries provide reliable access and response from our administration base at Wessex Nuffield Hospital. We have a dedicated core nursing team to support our out patient services and a specialist nurse providing support to our patients requiring a stay in hospital.  We have two colleagues specialising entirely in gynaecological ultrasound diagnosis. Our patients often comment on the value they place on the support provided by our wider Gynaechoice team.
