Mr Ash Monga, Consultant Gynaecologist at Gynaechoice, spoke recently as part of Radio 4’s award winning investigative series Face the Facts. Along with other specialists Mr Monga talked openly to Radio 4 presenter John Waite on the subject of tougher safety rules for new medical devices in vaginal surgery.
With some women reporting complications from vaginal mesh surgery, concerned surgeons say a compulsory register for all devices is long overdue in order to track success and failure. But might insisting on too rigorous a testing regime have the unintended consequence of stifling medical innovation and making it too expensive for all but the biggest companies.
